4D MMS – “Multi Mobility Safety” enables machines and vehicles to see and recognize objects. Ferdinand Wiegelmann, the CEO of PTX technical expertise, explains how: Machines and industrial robots do not have to be in a secured area or operate within an enclosed system. Instead, they can still act independently by using a 3D laser scanner. So cars can now detect their surroundings on a much more detailed 3D level, instead of using radar or ultrasonic sound.
Where did your idea for the company come from?
Ferdinand Wiegelmann (PTX technical expertise): The idea for 4D MMS based on laser scanning comes from the need to make machines, robots and vehicles more flexible and to enable them to see and recognize objects. We call this “vision for motion.”
For which kind of audience is your product or service intended and what problem is it solving?
Ferdinand Wiegelmann (PTX technical expertise): Our customers are providers of industry automation systems, industrial and forklift trucks as well as transport robots. Their aim is to increase productivity and avoid collisions. Thanks to 4D MMS, their immediate environment can be detected and motions can be predicted.
Tell us a bit about the company’s founders like their professional or industry background and the origins of the founding idea.
Ferdinand Wiegelmann (PTX technical expertise): I have a wide-ranging experience as a managing director in the innovative industry and business development (BD). I would call myself a passionate company creator and I take care of BD, partnering and the funding of our startup.
Christoph Kellermann has extensive experience as a software engineer and in managing industrial automation projects in machinery. Chris loves all technical challenges.
For CODE_n, you’re presenting a 4D system that enables machines to recognize their environment. To the amateur this sounds very complex. Can you tell us more about this technology with respect to functionality, possibilities and safety?
Ferdinand Wiegelmann (PTX technical expertise): The functionality of the 4D MMS ‘vision for motion’ is based on a high-speed laser scanner which detects the environment in real time. 4D MMS is more than just collision avoidance. It also entails autonomous driving and flexible man-machine interaction – like collaboration between humans and robots, some of which weigh several tons. Our system helps machines, robots and vehicles to see and recognize their immediate environment, with a variety of further applications in many sectors.
