CODE_n 15: “Best and most fun event we have ever attended”

CeBIT and CODE_n 2015 are in the past – it’s already been over a week since the 50 finalists took down their booths and the CODE_n team and partners folded up tents in Hanover. But preparing for the future always means looking back: figuring out what went great and what could have been better will be part of the work of the CODE_n team for the next couple of months. Really helpful is the feedback of some of our finalists. Among it some truly moving statements that we surely don’t want to withhold:

CODE_n15 has been a truly great event, definitely the best at CeBIT. If we put aside the great exposure we had by participating in CODE_n15, what we liked most is that this event is organized by entrepreneurs with a single motivation behind: innovation. Thank you CODE_N that we were able to be part of it. – Vebbu

First Look at Design of CODE_n15 by Kram/Weisshaar

Internationally renowned designers Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram have been commissioned to design the CODE_n exhibition, housed in the monumental space of CeBIT’s Hall 16. For the Hall’s design, the Internet of Things will be materialized as a series of interconnected objects and booths suspended in a web of scaffolding. Visitors will be able to traverse floating hallways and platforms populated with the latest and most innovative developments in the IoT.

The exhibition space will be anchored with an interactive robotic media installation entitled ROBOCHOP which invites internet users from across the world as well as fair attendees to design and fabricate a piece of furniture in real time. Weisshaar and Kram will develop an app that allows the global community to engage with the giant robotic arms sculpt material in situ.

With ROBOCHOP, we are actualizing and personalizing the Industrial Internet. The often intangible web of technology becomes a concrete, interactive experience that nonetheless remains a taste of a not-so-distant future,

proclaims Weisshaar. “The exhibition architecture parallels this condition by galvanizing the dialogue between new-guard company founders and industry titans.”

We have published some screens of the slides, presented by Clemens Weisshaar 31st July 2014 at a press conference in Munich. You’ll find these pics in our channel at Flickr.

Viewsy wins CODE_n14 award

Since Monday, 50 startups from 17 countries have been presenting their innovative business models related to the topic of Big Data in the CODE_n hall 16 at CeBIT. The CODE_n jury has reached a decision: The coveted CODE_n award and prize money in the amount of EUR 30,000 were awarded to London-based Viewsy.

What does Viewsy do?

The UK startup offers retailers the possibility of understanding the behavior of their customers in detail. How much time do they spend on average in the store? Which areas do they frequent the most? How frequently do they visit the store? Viewsy’s technology acquires a variety of different data sources, such as distances walked, interprets them using statistical methods, and thus offers understanding of the behavioral patterns of customers. Brand owners can benefit from this as well by obtaining exact insights into where to best position which products in the store. Conclusions regarding the identity of individuals are purposefully excluded by Viewsy. All data is acquired anonymously. If a customer does not want to be analyzed while shopping, he can simply switch off the WLAN connection of his smartphone. More…

Congratulations to the CODE_n13 Winners!

After months of deliberation, we are proud to announce the winners of the second annual CODE_n contest! Changers.com won first place in the Startup category, and GREENCLOUDS took first place in the Emerging Company category; each received prize money amounting to €15,000.

Although the two company serve different customers, their commitment to cleantech solutions is clear. Changers, based in Berlin, has developed portable solar-powered chargers for smartphones and tablets. The chargers measure the amount of CO2 that has been saved and convert it to “Changers Credits,” which are posted to the online community and can be exchanged for sustainable products and services. The Netherlands’ GREENCLOUDS has developed a technology platform that makes idle resources in data processing centers to others, which allows companies to create a new source of income while reducing the data centers’ carbon footprints.

The contest was highly competitive from the beginning: of the 250 companies from 35 countries that entered, just 50 finalists were invited to exhibit at the CODE_n hall at CeBIT. “We found selecting the winners was a very difficult task,” stated Ulrich Dietz, CEO of GFT and initiator of CODE_n. “Many of the finalists caught our attention with their exceptional business models addressing the energy transition.”

In addition, carzapp and Codeatelier were recognized with special prizes sponsored by the international automotive supplier, Continental, the newest partner to CODE_n. carzapp, based in Berlin, operates a private carsharing platform through which anyone can make their car available for rental, while Burgstetten-based Codeatelier has developed Homee, an app that allows users to control a variety of devices in their home. The companies will share a show booth with Continental at the international automobile show IAA in Frankfurt, as well as receive mentoring from experienced innovators.

Changers and carzapp are continuing their winning streak this week with additional awards: just yesterday, these two companies won a special crowdfunding prize at CODE_n. From now until May 5, private investors with a bank account in Germany can visit seedmatch.de to buy shares in the companies starting at €250. In total, both companies have a chance to earn up to €250,000 in venture capital.

If you’re at CeBIT, we encourage you to stop by our both and congratulate the winners and the other finalists; they’ll be at Hall 16 until Saturday. Congratulations once again to all who participated!

CODE_n Blues (EN + DE)

It’s the first Monday after CeBIT. One thing is for sure: the whole team is having the CODE_n blues and would go back immediately…

Every single day the atmosphere was amazing and we are all sure – we would do it again!

If I would be asked to look back and pick one single highlight, I am would have trouble to decide because of all those great moments we had and persons we met.

One thing the CODE_n members were looking forward to was driving the mia. Since it was sure that we would have some of those small electric cars we were talking about how it will be to drive a car like this – and we all did. 🙂 More…
